New Dreams for America

Visions2030 and Union Theological Seminary present New Dreams for America, a convening over three days, March 26-28, bringing together thinkers, visionaries, and members of the general public. Its intent is to draw from multiple inspirations to dare to co-envision the best possible scenarios for the next century and beyond.

Galvanized by Visions2030’s mission to harness the creative imagination to forge new models of society, combined with Union Seminary’s progressive roots of faith, scholarship, and social justice, the gathering will feature sessions led by future-oriented thought leaders from many disciplines.

Thursday evening features a public keynote address by Fabio Scarano, Chief Curator at Rio de Janeiro’s Museum of Tomorrow, a UNESCO Chair in Futures Studies, and author of Regenerative Dialogues for Sustainable Futures, followed by a reception.

The next two days involve focused, closed-door sessions designed for an invited audience. The guided sessions will enlist the audience as co-participants and focus on themes including spirituality, technology, finance, sustainability, inter-generational collaboration, government structures, and civic life.

Featured speakers and facilitators include:

  • Anatola Araba, creative technologist and Youth250 Bureau member
  • Mark Beam, futurist
  • Serene Jones, President, Union Theological Seminary
  • Ravi Rajan, President, CalArts
  • John Threat, hacker and futurist

The ‘American Dream’ has long inspired generations around the world with its promise. Reimagining it as a true and meaningful reality for all remains the challenge of this moment. This convening is an invitation not so much to lament the present but to envision collectively what we long for our future to be.

Registration information for the Thursday keynote will be available soon.
